Mzumbe Business Day was commemorated on 7th June 2024 at Royal Tughimbe Hotel in Mbeya City whereby various government and private institutions, companies and student groups as well as talented individual students were invited. More than 500 students and staff from the Department of Business Education attended the event whose main message was on investment and business opportunities in the public and private sector. The Bank of Tanzania, BRELA, Some Microfinace Banks, Feed the Future and several business companies were among the invited institutions that informed the mass about their areas of expertise and opportunities to the youths.
During the day, Dr. Simon Chiwanga, Executive Director of the Integrated Rural Development Organization (IRDO) and Chairman of the Songwe River Basin Stakeholders Platform delivered a public lecture on Youth Empowerment focusing on the Private Sector contribution to the development race of the nation, highlighting various opportunities that the sector is providing on youth employment through community development service provision, entrepreneurship and marketing avenues in improving people's lives. _"IRDO For Better Change"_ was the slogan he used in delivering his speech by touching various areas of interest in eradicating poverty, going against gender-based violence, improving the public health and ensuring socio-economic values are enhanced and sustained under well trained and competent human resource team.
IRDO and Mzumbe University are in an ongoing consortium agreement step that is going to assure a sustainable partnership under strong thematic areas of institutional capacity building, good governance youth development initiative and integrated community development service provision.
Among the interesting occasions was the inauguration of a book with a title *"Kijana Imara na Fikra Angavu"* by Aleus Mwingira, a third year student persuing Bachelor of Human Resources Management from Mzumbe University - Mbeya Campus.
